Slimpod in Parliament: A New Way to Tackle the Obesity Epidemic

Recently, something truly important happened in the House of Lords.

In a room filled with experts, politicians, and health leaders, the conversation finally shifted—from blame to understanding. And at the centre of that shift was Professor Adrian Heald.

Adrian is a consultant physician who’s spent his career working on the front lines of health inequality in Greater Manchester. He’s not just an expert—he’s someone who’s seen the devastating impact of obesity on real lives, real communities, and our NHS.

He’s also the man who will be running our impending clinical trial and wrote the foreword to my book: The Weight’s Over: Take Back Control!

So when Adrian speaks, people listen. And what he shared at the Parliamentary summit was this:

Obesity is not a personal failure. It’s a biological, social, and economic challenge.

The NHS Is at Breaking Point

Adrian and his team modelled the long-term cost of obesity to the NHS. The result?
Up to £100,000 per person over a lifetime.

It’s not just about weight—it’s about diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, joint problems, and mental health. It’s about resources stretched to the brink.

And here’s the truth: unless we embrace scalable, sustainable change, the system won’t cope.

Showcasing a New Way Forward

That’s why it meant so much that Slimpod was mentioned as part of the solution at this landmark event.

Because Slimpod isn’t a diet. It doesn’t ask people to count calories or rely on willpower. It changes behaviour by changing the brain.
It’s rooted in neuroscience, psychology, and over a decade of research. And it works.

People feel in control around food for the first time in years. They stop bingeing. They eat better—not because they’re told to, but because they want to.

And that’s where the power lies.

Time to Change the Narrative

The summit sent a clear message: the way we talk about obesity must change. This isn’t about laziness. It’s not about greed. It’s about biology, environment, and inequality.

As Adrian said, the science is clear—and the cost of ignoring it is too high.

We are incredibly proud that Slimpod was recognised in the House of Commons as a powerful, preventative tool in the fight against obesity.

This is about more than weight. It’s about restoring hope, dignity, and health.

And it starts with understanding that it’s not your fault.

  1. This is incredible, I discovered slimpods and started only this week, already I am feeling different. Thank you for posting Sandra😌

  2. The NHS and society needs a different answer to the obesity problem that is not centred around traditional restrictive diets. That answer has to be achievable, realistic and sustainable. Well done Sandra and Slimpod.

  3. I can honestly say that Slimpod has changed my life. I was a slave to the scales. The numbers shifted one way or the other for years and years and my mental state shifted along with them. My self worth was measured by a number on the scales and each upwards shift told me I was a failure.

Now, thanks to Slimpod, I don’t stand on the scales. My clothes, my fitness my happiness tell me everything I need to know about my self worth.

Before Slimpod, I scrutinised every menu when we went out to dinner, always choosing the ‘healthy’ option, rarely the one I really wanted. Every meal at home was carefully measured for calorific value – eating was a chore and rarely enjoyable. Exercise was for young people – now, at 62, I exercise 5 times a week and walk an average of 5 miles a day. I’ve dropped 2-3 dress sizes. I can now look in a mirror and like who I see and I no longer hide behind others in photos.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing as this new way of life takes some getting used to. My ‘diet head’ has gone now and I am happier than I have been for most of my adult life.

  4. Well done and thank you Sandra and Adrian! This issue is integral in creating a proactive, informed and holistic NHS and helping all of us to lead happier and healthier lives.

  5. Well done, Sandra. It’s so good to know that the Slimpod message is being listened to by those in a position to make big changes. It has the potential to make a huge difference to people’s lives and health. It’s been a game changer for me in so many more ways than my weight. I feel so grateful to have discovered it a year ago. Thank you, Sandra!
