How Lydia Lost 7.5 Stone by Getting Her Head in Gear and Falling in Love With Exercise

Do you ever feel like you’re doing all the right things to lose weight, yet the scales have ground to a halt? That was Lydia. She’d already lost a fair amount with Slimming World, but things had stalled, and as she puts it so perfectly, it wasn’t that the plan wasn’t working, her head just wasn’t in gear. Adding Slimpod gave her the brain reset she needed, and over about two and a half years she’s gone on to lose an incredible seven and a half stone.

The brain reset that got things moving again

Lydia works in holistic therapies, so she’s a real believer in the power of the mind, and Slimpod made complete sense to her. Almost straight away it started to sort her thinking around food, help her make better choices, and quieten the food noise, and the weight began shifting again.

This is exactly why I always say Slimpod is your flexible friend. You can do it alongside anything, whether that’s a slimming club or something else entirely, because it works on the part no diet ever reaches: what’s going on in your head.

Finding the joy in moving her body

Here’s the part Lydia says made the biggest difference of all. She leaned heavily on the Fit Pod, and her fitness has properly taken off. She’d always been fit before having children, and it had all gone out the window, but now she’s back to her old self.

She’d actually started with a personal trainer six months earlier, yet the days in between were hit and miss because the motivation just wasn’t there. The further into the programme she got, the more she genuinely wanted to exercise, and the more she did, the more she wanted to do. Now she wakes up thinking about what movement she’ll do that day before she’s even out of bed. As she says, the buzz of feeling your body get stronger really is second to none.

Treats without the guilt

Lydia’s diet was never especially bad, her real issue was eating too much, with portions that were simply too big. Her mindset shifted so that instead of gorging, she’d eat a little and go back only if she needed more. The snacking on rubbish quietly fell away, and treats became treats again rather than everyday food.

What I love is how the guilt has shrunk to nothing. She still enjoys something decadent now and then, and because she balances it with good food and all that movement, there’s no punishing herself for it. That’s what makes it sustainable. When she goes out with friends, it’s never “I’m on a diet, I can’t”, because she can, and she simply balances it another day.

Choosing herself

Lydia is honest that she was very much an emotional eater. Tired meant junk for an instant hit, and stress, with babies, broken sleep and juggling work, meant she put herself right on the back burner. Eventually she knew things had to change, so she made some big decisions. She left a high-powered, stressful job to pursue the therapies she finds so fulfilling now, and she started working on herself mentally and emotionally before looking for something to support a proper lifestyle change.

So much has changed since. A few years ago, getting out of bed meant sore feet and an aching back, and she felt like the big mum at the school gates. Now she’s genuinely impressed herself with what she’s capable of, all through dedication, the right mindset, and finally putting herself first. People stop her to say they spotted her running down the road, and she’s become a bit of an inspiration, cheerfully taking the mick out of herself in her exercise posts and getting others moving too.

Lydia's takeaway for you

Lydia isn’t chasing a number anymore. She’s building muscle and watching her shape change, so rather than the scales, she goes by the mirror, and when she’s happy, that’s where she’ll settle. Her whole outlook now is simple: keep choosing you.
