From Diet Struggles to Life Success: Julie’s Slimpod Story of Hope

Julie’s story is one of those heart-warming tales that instantly reminds us why we do what we do. Four years ago, she took her first steps with Slimpod, and today, she stands nearly five stone lighter with a new outlook on life. But weight loss, as Julie’s journey shows, is just part of the story. Her transformation touches every area of her life, bringing her confidence, friendship, and even new love!

From Little Steps to Lasting Success

Like many Slimpodders, Julie struggled with her weight for years. She tried every diet imaginable, but nothing seemed to stick. That all changed in 2020 when, with the gentle nudge of a trusted doctor, she began Slimpod. She started with simple, achievable steps: “Just a minute a day,” she recalls, “increasing it bit by bit.” Despite living with fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, Julie’s commitment gradually built her strength and energy.

“I went from being this fat painful person to gradually becoming slimmer and more active. ” she said.

Julie’s transformation extended beyond herself. In 2020 Julie and I had a zoom at the end of her 10 weeks. When her story was posted in the Slimpod Facebook group, another member named June – who also has fibromyalgia – reached out. Many of you will know June and her fantastic story as well. That connection was the start of a fabulousl friendship. They supported each other through virtual walks and even became the “Fibro Warriors,” an uplifting support group of four Slimpodders cheering each other on through shared challenges.

Recently, the two friends met for the first time in person, with June kindly crafting decorations for Julie’s wedding cake. 

Embracing New Adventures and Finding Love

Julie’s journey brought her more than just health. She met her husband along the way, and with renewed energy, she took on activities she never thought possible, from regular hula hooping sessions to cycling with her e-bike up her famously steep Welsh lane. She even set a “wedding dress goal” that kept her motivated through her weight loss journey. And now, with married life and retirement on the horizon, Julie has big plans to keep active and live fully.

“So here we are and we’re nearly five stone on, and I’m a married woman, and I’m more active than what I’ve been for a long time. In fact, I’ve not been this way I’d say for at least 20 years.”

Learning to Listen to Her Body

Julie’s approach to food has transformed too. She’s found the beauty of intuitive eating, adjusting portion sizes and eating when truly hungry – a shift that has become second nature. 

“Just normal behavior. It is normal behavior, totally normal. I’m so relaxed. Like I say, if I want a chocolate, I’ll have a chocolate, but I only buy the little fun size ones because a normal size is too much for me. So I have no guilt if I eat chocolate.” 

Over time, she learned to trust her body’s cues, which is a key part of Slimpod’s approach to building a lasting, healthy relationship with food.

 “I never ever get a full-sized dinner plate for myself. It’s always tea plate size, and sometimes I look at that and think, wow, that’s tiny compared to what I used to eat. But I’m not hungry, so that’s good”

Advice for New Slimpodders

For those at the start of their journey, Julie’s advice is clear: 

“Be consistent. Trust in the process. Don’t expect miracles overnight.. Slimpod is not a quick fix but rather a way to change your habits for life. As she puts it, “Life is not about food. Life is about living, not focusing on food.”

  2. Oh Julie’s success story has me sitting here in the morning sunshine, tears rolling down my cheeks. So inspiring and life affirming.
    Julie’s story particularly resonates with me, I feel because there are similarities in my own. Early in my Slimpod journey, joined last month, but know I’ve finally found the program and community for me. And I’m one stone down and determined to keep going until I can do all I want to do in my one precious life.
