I was trapped in a body that felt like it had given up on me.
Listen to June's episode
“I was trapped in a body that felt like it had given up on me. For years, I relied on a mobility scooter and crutches just to get around. Walking was painful, exhausting, and something I avoided whenever possible. I felt like a prisoner in my own body, held back by fibromyalgia—a condition that had dictated my every move since my diagnosis in 2008.
Now I’ve tackled treetop walks in Wales, soared on zip lines, walked over a million steps, and joined a gym. I’ve lost 25.5kg (4 stone), dropping from a size 20 to a size 14. But more importantly, I’ve gained my freedom.”
"Five years ago, I found Slimpod. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I gave it a try. That decision changed my life. For the first time in years, I believed I could break free from the body I had felt trapped in."
The Moment Everything Changed
\
The changes were subtle at first. I watched Julie Emmanuel’s video, and it sparked something inside me—a shift in perspective. Instead of focusing on what I couldn’t do, I started building on what I could. Slowly, my energy levels began to return. Waking up in the morning didn’t feel like an impossible task anymore. I started walking without my crutches, and my flare-ups became shorter and more manageable.
I even noticed something remarkable: the food I ate had a direct impact on my symptoms. It became clear that I didn’t need antidepressants anymore—I wasn’t depressed! I was transforming, inside and out.
Slimpod didn’t just help me lose weight—it helped me break free from the toxic cycle of dieting. I became a natural eater, no longer ruled by diet books, calorie counting, or guilt-ridden food rules. I learned to say no to second helpings, even to my mum’s home-cooked meals, which once felt impossible!
Food no longer controlled me. I didn’t obsess over what was “allowed” or “forbidden.” I ate what I wanted, but I actually listened to my body. If I fancied a beer, I had one. But I found myself naturally gravitating towards healthier choices—not because I had to, but because I wanted to.
The biggest gift Slimpod gave me? The freedom to stop dieting altogether. No weighing, no measuring, no guilt. Just balance, consistency, and self-trust.
The Transformation: A Newfound Confidence and Joy
As my body changed, so did my confidence. I started doing things I never thought possible—things I had only ever dreamed of. I joined a gym. I walked over a million steps. And then, I did something truly extraordinary: I started burlesque dancing.
Standing on stage at the local summer fayre, surrounded by my burlesque friends, performing in front of a crowd—it felt surreal. Just a few years earlier, I could barely walk 100 yards without pain, and now I was dancing, embracing my body with pride and joy.
At the start of my journey, I couldn’t even stand on one leg. Now, I can stand on one leg on top of a chair. I’ve even done the splits!

A Life I Never Thought Possible
Reflecting on where I started, I can hardly believe how far I’ve come. When I joined Slimpod in 2020, I was housebound, dependent on my mobility scooter and crutches. Now, I’m zip-lining, hiking, and dancing my way through life. My fibromyalgia no longer controls me—I took back control.
I’ve forgiven myself for the years I spent feeling trapped in my own body. Instead of resenting my past, I’m grateful for my strength, my resilience, and my two amazing boys.
My Message To You
If you’re feeling stuck, if you think change is impossible—I promise you, it’s not. I’m living proof that you can take back control, no matter how lost you feel.
Slimpod didn’t just help me lose weight—it gave me my life back. It gave me confidence, freedom, and a future I control, a fact I never thought possible.

June Ward’s own story
How My Life Has Changed: From Mobility Scooter to Burlesque Dancing
I was trapped in a body that felt like it had given up on me.
But more importantly, I’ve gained my freedom.
The Struggle That Defined Me
Before Slimpod, my world was painfully small. I had been pensioned off from the NHS before I turned 40, leaving me feeling lost and betrayed by my own body. Simple tasks, like going grocery shopping, were impossible without my elderly parents’ help. My 76-year-old father carried my bags because I didn’t have the strength to do it myself. The humiliation of being so dependent was overwhelming, but I had no other choice.
I felt trapped, not just physically but mentally. Fibromyalgia controlled every aspect of my life, draining my energy, my confidence, and my ability to dream of a future beyond survival. I had convinced myself that this was it—this was the life I was doomed to live.

The Moment Everything Changed
Then, five years ago, I found Slimpod. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I gave it a try. That decision changed my life. For the first time in years, I believed I could break free from the body I had felt trapped in.

Amazing! June can even do the splits
Freedom From Dieting and Guilt
Slimpod didn’t just help me lose weight—it helped me break free from the toxic cycle of dieting. I became a natural eater, no longer ruled by diet books, calorie counting, or guilt-ridden food rules. I learned to say no to second helpings, even to my mum’s home-cooked meals, which once felt impossible!

This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every step. The most rewarding part? Seeing my boudoir photo wall every day. My proudest photo is the one of me in my red burlesque basque—a symbol of how far I’ve come.
I’ve forgiven myself for the years I spent feeling trapped in my own body. Instead of resenting my past, I’m grateful for my strength, my resilience, and my two amazing boys.
